A statement which clearly and simply articulates criteria for success. It shows what components support the whole. It eliminates confusion by insuring that everyone knows to what precisely they are committing. It articulates what programs operate beneficially within the context of the overall strategic plan. It sets the stage for integrating resources.
A statement of purpose broad enough to involve people at every level within the endeavor, and inspiring enough to encourage the personal commitment of all stakeholders.
An announcement to members, visitors and the public of what can be expected from the organization.
A challenge to all stakeholders to focus on the future.
The projection of future accomplishment that promises to extend the organizations influence in terms of both strategy and tactics.
A successful strategic vision aligns all the parts of the organization. As with light in a laser beam, everyone moves together in a common direction. The vision provides the foundation on which successful affiliation, strategic planning, and committed endeavor can be built. When strategic vision expresses the purposes and aspirations of the stakeholders as a group, its impact on individual performance extends to the heart and soul as well as the mind.
Notes:
Vision articulates where the organization is going and what will be accomplished to demonstrate that. Stated in present tense but set in a future date, a great vision propels people to action. It also provides the link for each member to see, how what they do, contributes to attaining the vision. In short, it provides purpose to their work.
Mission articulates why the organization is in business. Mission details what goods and services the organization provides.
Values articulate what is important for internal members to work together and also what external members (customers/suppliers) can expect in their relationship with the organization
